Snapchat for Business: The Ultimate Marketing Guide

A recent study released by Snapchat Inc. found that nearly a third of Australian smartphone users actively use the social media platform.

Over 150 million people now use Snapchat to watch 10 billion videos every day. For a savvy social media marketer, that's a possible 10 billion daily opportunities to build awareness of your business and brand.

Snapchat collaborated with MediaScience to survey 320 consumers aged 16 to 56, which compared Snapchat video ads to those on TV, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Snapchat says its ads garnered twice the visual attention of Facebook and 1.5 times more than Instagram. They were also 1.3 times more effective than YouTube.

Hootsuite has put together an ultimate marketing guide for business owners to master Snapchat. Some of these tips include:

  • Build brand awareness with Snap Ads
  • Promote engagement with Snapchat Geofilters
  • Drive increase in purchase intent with Snapchat Sponsored Lens

4 Costly Mistakes Businesses Can Make on Social Media

Social media can either be an asset or a hindrance.

Social media is a powerful tool, but with this power comes great responsibility. Failure to understand just how influential and damaging social media mistakes can be will result in long-term damage and issues that inhibit growth. Thankfully, many of the costly mistakes businesses make are totally preventable.

Social media’s visibility and wide reach are its greatest strength and its greatest weakness. When you do something good, positive exposure can be extremely helpful to your brand. When you do something wrong, everyone is there to witness your shortcoming. With that being said, it’s critically important that you avoid making costly mistakes.

5 New (Pre-Christmas) Social Platform Features Updates You Need to Know About

Even as we head into the final days before the holiday break for most, the major social platforms are still releasing new tests and updates, with the arrival of Facebook’s new Messenger group video chats, live-streaming direct from tweets and the ability to save posts on Instagram. Of course, not all of these updates are major, not every one will have an impact on your strategy. But then again, impact is relative - what’s minor to you and your business could be huge to someone else.

As part of our ongoing effort to provide you with the best coverage of the latest social media news and insights, we feel it’s important to cover all of these updates and tests - but sometimes they’re not worthy of a their own individual post.

28 Experts Share Social Care Predictions for 2017: Part 1

Social media is the first marketing channel where customers can actually talk back. This is a new concept for traditional brand marketers, who are used to being able to completely control the brand message with TV and print advertising that is akin to shouting with a megaphone. Consumers have a choice – and a voice – on social media; they don’t have to listen to brands, and they're free to “talk back”, making it a two-way conversation. This shifts the power from the brand to the consumer, and consumers today expect to be able to engage with brands wherever and whenever they want. A brand’s response (or lack thereof) plays a big role in customer satisfaction and loyalty.

I asked 27 social media and customer service experts three questions about what happened in social care in 2016 and what might be coming in 2017. Their responses – along with my own – will be shared in three different posts, starting here with the first question:

"Why do social media marketers need to care about customer service?"
