Snapchat’s Launching a New AR Art Installation Project
Snapchat’s launching a new project which will enable visual artists to place 3D augmented reality art in specific locations, which users will then be able to locate on a map and visit to inspect.
Snap Inc. sparked speculation about the project when they released a new website with a mysterious countdown running.
TechCrunch inquired as to what the site was about, but Snapchat was tight-lipped, saying only that they’d have 'more to share soon'.

Recently, when announcing the coming launch of the iPhone X, Apple’s SVP of software engineering Craig Federighi discussed the detail of their new face-tracking and image enhancement tools, and explained how they’d been working with Snapchat to develop Lenses and visual additions based on this.
That mention alone saw shares in Snap Inc. spike, with many speculating what this potential partnership might mean.

Snapchat Announces 3D AR Lenses as a New Ad Option
It was only a matter of time, but Snapchat has this week confirmed that their 3D World Lenses - which they introduced last November
Will now be available as an ad option, with Warner Bros and Bud Lightpartnering with Snapchat on the first iterations of the tool.
The option will clearly hold appeal for some advertisers – while these initial examples seem fairly basic, in terms of how they could be used, Snapchat’s talking up their potential, using the popularity of their ‘Dancing Hot Dog’ Lens to demonstrate.

Snap Inc. knows it has no chance of competing with Facebook on scale.
This is the path that Twitter’s been funnelled into over time, and with Facebook now seeing more than 2 billion monthly active users, that comparison is never going to be favorable.
Snap, of course, has known this all along, which is part of the reason why they’ve labeled themselves a camera company, as opposed to a social network.

Instagram Is Adding Video Masks to Instagram Live, Expanding Creative Options
Instagram’s adding their Snapchat-esque virtual masks to Instagram Live, giving users another creative option when broadcasting within the app.
Instagram added live-streaming back in November, tapping into the wider live-stream usage trend – though initially Instagram Live content was only available as it was being broadcast.
Once your stream ended, the video was gone.

Facebook’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Video Mask Outshines Similar Campaign on Snapchat
And now, for the latest in Facebook’s ‘anything you can do, I can do better’ battle with Snapchat.
Back in July, before the launch of the seventh season of Game of Thrones, HBO ran a Snapchat Lens and filter as part of their promotion efforts.
According to Snapchat, the Game of Thrones Lens generated over 122 million impressions in a week, with more than 45 million individual users posting or viewing the promotion.
