Snapchat remains the most popular social platform among younger audiences, but Instagram is now seeing more usage.
That's according to a new report from Piper Jaffray, which incorporates responses from 8,600 teens, with an average age of 16, from across 48 US states.
Researchers sought to gain insights into a range of trends, including social media usage, and have revealed, once again, that Snapchat, while it may not be growing at the rate it once was, remains highly influential.

New Report Shows Instagram, Snapchat Lead Facebook in Teen Usage
Mark Zuckerberg will not be happy about this.
Facebook is now the fourth most popular social network amongst teen users in the U.S., lagging behind YouTube, Instagram and (the worst news for Zuck) Snapchat.
The study, which took into account responses from 743 U.S. teens, once again highlights one of Facebook’s key concerns – that it’s losing traction amongst younger users.

Snapchat Launches New Audio-Triggered Lenses
The news hasn’t been great for Snap Inc. of late.
The redesign of their flagship app bombed with users, forcing them to ease it back, while their Q1 results failed to meet market expectations, and raised questions about the company’s future.
Add to that Facebook’s continued push into Stories, heralding it as the next bog social sharing shift, and there’s been a fair bit to be salty about at Snap HQ.

Snapchat Rolls Out Redesigned Redesign to Users
It’s hard to tell if this is a good or bad sign.
Snap Inc., facing significant backlash over the redesign of their flagship app Snapchat, which aimed to put increased emphasis on friend-to-friend connection.
According to The Verge, the updated Snapchat redesign will put Snaps and chats back in chronological order, and move Stories from your friends back over to the right-hand side of the app.

Snapchat plans to start testing six-second video ads that can't be skipped
A departure from its past practice of letting its users tap their phone screens to jump straight to desired content, according to Digiday.
The image-messaging app's new ad format, called "Commercials," will run in some Snapchat Shows, but not in its Discover section that features professionally produced content or users' personal stories.

Snapchat Adds Group Video Chat, Confirms User Tagging Option in Snaps
A key trend of note which may be going under the radar, particularly for many older web users, is the usage of group video chat to ‘virtually hang out’ from any location.
Group video streaming app Houseparty, from the makers of Meerkat, lead the trend, which then saw Facebook push group video chat in Messenger, then in Instagram also.
Facebook followed this with the launch of its own, dedicated group video chat app, called ‘Bonfire’, underlining how serious they’re taking the shift.
